Waterjet cutting machine maintenance is critical not only to preserving the operational efficiency of the equipment but also in curbing costs associated with repairs and replacements. For these reasons, it is a process that every facility should commit to, throughout the lifespan of the machine. And where that is concerned, there are two main things that need to be kept in mind.


Manufacturer-Recommended Practices

One of the most important things to remember when it comes to implementing maintenance is that specific recommendations from the manufacturer ar followed down to the letter. This is because every waterjet machine comes equipped with a particular kind of engineering that is designed by its manufacturer, and thus affects the operational efficiency of the equipment. Techni waterjets, for example, need to be operated a certain way so that they can be harnessed to their full potential.

When doing your maintenance, your manual should always be consulted before, during, and after the process. Intervals must be properly observed, and the specifics that are involved in the maintenance should also be managed. Abrasives, for instance, have a certain number of cutting hours before they need to be replaced – but you can maximise this duration through certain measures that are recommended by your manufacturer.


Holistic Preventative Approach

It is also important to remember that maintenance is best if it is approached proactively, as opposed to reactively. Preventive measures that go beyond containing damage to the equipment are necessary for the upkeep of the whole machinery, and your facility should have a comprehensive model that details each of these. Training is also important. If there is anyone in your team that has not had previous experience with operating a waterjet, training will not only make sure that the equipment is operated properly; it will also ensure safety in your workplace. If you upgrade to a more specialised machine, training must similarly be secured. Or if you are changing your methodologies to accommodate more efficiency, the entire facility must be properly apprised of these changes so that the transition goes smoothly and successfully, for the advantage of the operation.
